Obituary of Doris E. Doheny
Dr. Doris "Dodie" Doheny passed peacefully in her sleep on May 25th, 2018, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 29, 1957 to parents Bruno and Anneliese Ostermann, Doris was the first of her family born in America. Dodie's family life was heavily influenced by her German heritage.
In her teens, Doris was a proud member of the Royal Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps of Finleyville, PA. Later, Doris attended the Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic, where she earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic and also met a young man from New Jersey, her "Tommy".
The two would be nearly inseparable for the next 35+ years as they raised their two daughters and navigated life's ups and downs side by side.
She was a devoted wife and mother and always quick to express her love and pride of her daughters. She was a loyal friend to all. She served "The Valley" for 25 years as a practicing chiropractor and a beacon of wellness throughout the community. She was a lover of music and never turned down an opportunity to see a Todd Rundrgen concert, no matter the distance.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband Thomas, siblings — Betty, Elsa and Ralph, daughters — Anneliese & Laura (Callanan), Son-in Law Neil Callanan and granddaughter Lida Rose. She was predeceased by her sons Daniel and Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in her honor to the ALS Association (321 Norristown Rd #260, Ambler PA 19002) or to the Spirit of Harmony Foundation (3536 N. Wilton Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657.)
The family will receive visitors at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens on Wednesday, May 30 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
