Obituary of Marjorie M. Rogers

Marjorie M. "Margie" (Norton) Rogers, 91, of Duke Center, PA formerly of Sayre, passed away on June 2, 2018 at her home.

She was born on March 28, 1927 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Murphy) Norton.

Margie was a graduate of Sayre High School, Class of 1946. Following school, she was employed with Sayre Lingerie and Athens Sewing Factory for over 25 years. She loved being around people, and for over 30 years she was a Volunteer at Robert Packer Hospital and Guthrie Clinic, and was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. During that time, she also worked part time in the Clinic Pharmacy. Margie was a member of St. John's Catholic Parish, and after moving to be closer to family, she attended Duke Center United Methodist Church. While living in the Valley she was a member of the Sayre and Waverly Senior Citizens.

She loved spending time with family, whether it was just visiting, playing games, or her famous shopping trips. Margie continued to enjoy shopping even in the days prior to her passing with her sister, Alice, niece, Kathy, and great-niece, Mary. She enjoyed crocheting, working with plastic canvas crafts, watching and attending ball games. Margie loved the constant attention of her furry friends, Tillar and Tess.

She is predeceased by her husband, John Rogers, brothers, Eugene and Robert Norton, niece, Mary Norton, and nephews, Robert, Jr. and Eugene, Jr. Norton.

Marjorie is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Russ McCracken of Rixford, PA, brothers, Henry Norton of Athens, PA, and George Norton of Athens, PA, special niece and nephew-in-law, Kathy and AJ Curtis of Duke Center, PA, nephews and nieces-in-law, Henry and Donna Norton of Chemung, NY, George and Betty Norton of Athens, PA, Matt and Melody Norton of MT John and Christy Norton of SC, and Brian and Dawn Norton of FL , nieces and nephews-in-law, Barbara and Jim Canning of Athens, PA, Julie and Gerald Stack of Athens, PA, Laurie and Mike McJunkin of Sumter, SC, and Jeanne and Robert Herron of SC, nephew, Mike Norton of SC, niece, Deanna Norton of PA, special great-niece and her boyfriend, and great-nephew and his wife, whom she loved spending time with, Mary Sullivan and Chris Blair of Duke Center, PA, and Dan and Angela Sullivan of Rixford, PA, and several other great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 9:30am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA with the Rev. Andrew Hzovdovic officiating.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service scheduled at a later date at the Duke Center United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
