Obituary of Lois A. Hutter

Lois Ann Hutter nee Potter passed away on August 16, 2018 surround by family and friends who loved her. She was born in Sayre, Pennsylvania on September 2, 1930 to Clark and Reva (DeKay) Potter. She is predeceased by her husband Luke Hutter, her parents, her stepmother Alice (Andrews) Potter, brothers Norman Potter and Lawrence Potter, and special family friend Tom Keir.

She is survived by daughters Nancy Hutter, Barbara Hutter and Sue Brown and her husband Chet; sister-in-law Felicia Knowles; grandchildren Stacie Hutter and her husband Jussi Uitti, Kyle Brown and his wife Liz, and Colleen VanHousen and her husband Jeff; and by great grandchildren Cora and Lydia VanHousen. Lois also left behind her recently acquired “daughter” Sherri Gross and longtime special family friends Mary Lou Keir (Tom, deceased), Tammy Keir Rogers and husband Gary, and LuAnn Keir Young and her husband Tim; special friend Brandon Beeman; also, many more supportive extended “family members” and friends.

Lois graduated from Sayre High School and then from the Robert Packer School of Nursing in 1951. She went immediately to work as a registered nurse at the Robert Packer Hospital and loved being assigned to the pediatric floor from 1963 to 1994. After that, she worked per diem until she was 75. Nursing school friends were always important to Lois, especially Charolotte (Shorty) Reeve, Joanne Lyons (deceased) and Ruth Peguero (deceased).

Helping others played a big role in Lois’s life. Her community service activities included the Red Cross, the Adult Literacy Program, the Foster Grandparent Program, Hospice, the Valley Ambulance Corps and the Girl Scouts. Lois loved reading and going to used book sales, pets, crafts, going places, and nature.

There are no services, according to Lois’s wishes. If you would like to remember her in some way, please donate to your favorite library or animal shelter, donate blood, or just go outside to enjoy the trees and sky.
