Obituary of Bertha House
Bertha Babcock House, 85, originally from Athens, PA, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2018 at Elderwood at Waverly, following an extended illness.
She was born on September 27, 1933 in Waverly, NY, the eldest daughter of the late Allie J. and Leotha (Alexander) Babcock.
Bertha graduated from Athens High School in 1951 and was employed with the Pennsylvania State Employment Agency for 41 years, prior to retiring in December 1991. She was a former member of the Church of the Redeemer and the Waverly Chapter of the Women of the Moose where she was a member of the College of Regents. Bertha was also a current member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Waverly, NY.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Gerald & Bud Babcock and her sister, GiGi DiPio.
Bertha is survived by her son, Scott, of Endicott, NY; sisters Viola Farr of Lockport, NY, Phyllis Shipman (Gerald) of Sayre; sister-in-law, Barbara Babcock of Athens; brother-in-law, John DiPio of Sayre; grandchildren, Makenzie, Cierra, Lyliannah and Colby; eight nieces & nephews and her goddaughter.
A Remembrance of Life Ceremony for Bertha will be held at noon on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.
Graveside prayer service will follow at the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
