Obituary of George T. Herrick
Rev. George T. Herrick, 86, of Waverly, NY went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born on July 22, 1932 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Seth and Vera (McCray) Herrick.
George attended Moody Bible Institute and graduated from Houghton College with his Pastoral License. He began his ministry with the Baptist Church in 1955 with his wife, Gladys, at the Scriba and North Scriba, NY churches. Throughout their ministry, he pastored mainly in the NY and PA area. Upon retiring from the full-time ministry, he served as Interim Pastor from Brooklyn, NY to Portland, OR. Most recently, he served as Interim Pastor at the Waverly Baptist Church and Pine City Baptist Church. He preached his final sermon on this year’s Palm Sunday at the Pine City Baptist Church. During his ministries, he served the Lord faithfully and touched many lives. George volunteered with the Bridge, working his last day with them on Monday.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, and gardening. He also enjoyed searching and collecting gemstones and was in the Lapidary Club and the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club. Most recently, he enjoyed tracing his family tree. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
He is predeceased by his grandson, Seth John Herrick.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Gladys at home, daughter, Sharon Hassenplug of Salisbury, NC, son, Douglas Herrick of Baldwinsville, NY, and son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Gwyn Herrick of Nobelsville, IN, grandchildren, Rebecca and Jeffrey Bloss, Jennifer Hassenplug, Jacylin Dietz, Krystal Herrick, Debra Herrick, Kaitlan Herrick, Megan and Robert Hundley, and William and Jamie Herrick, 9 great-grandchildren, and his many church families.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 10am-11am at the Pine City Baptist Church, 1516 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY. A celebration of life service will follow at the church at 11am with the Rev. Sabrina Smith and Rev. James Kelsey co-officiating.
