Mary Jane (Sidey) Murphy, 79, formerly of Athens Twp., passed away peacefully at her son and daughter-in-law's home in FL on Thursday, November 8, 2018 following a period of declining health. She was born on August 27, 1939 in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late William V. and Pauline (Chubbuck) Sidey. Mary Jane was a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend. She was a graduate of Athens Area High School, Class of the 1957 Bulldogs. She was employed with Sayre Lingerie, Bird Sumner Agency, and Gannon's, prior to retiring in 2009 at the age of 70. She worked with her husband on the family farm for many years, prior to his retirement. Mary Jane and her husband, Joe, celebrated 47 years of marriage, prior to his passing in 2013. She was always known as a hard worker, kind, and loving and she will be missed by all who knew her. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph "Joe" Murphy, brothers, John Sidey and Donnie Yale, and sister, Shirley Mullen. Mary Jane is survived by her daughter and companion, Rosemary E. Abrams and Louis Carlin of Athens, PA, son and daughter-in-law, whom she resided with, George F. and Shari Murphy of Venice, FL, grandchildren, Joshua Murphy, Mykala Abrams, Karrigan Abrams, Shonda Hill, Shawn Struble, Donald Struble, and Nicholas Murphy, great-grandchildren, Lexus Bogert, Levi Bogert, Elijah Struble, Caleb Struble, and Jayden Struble. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Diane Sidey of Athens, PA, uncle, Eugene Chubbuck, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Maynard Beckman, sister-in-law, Mary Yale, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 11am-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Waverly, NY. Memorial donations may be made in Mary Jane's memory to a charity of one's choice.
