Obituary of Shirley A. Kidd
Shirley A. Kidd, 88, of Sayre, PA passed away with her loved ones by her side on Friday, November 16, 2018 following her brave journey with dementia.
She was born on March 9, 1930 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Stanley and Pearl (Emerson) Grimley.
Shirley's family was always her priority. She loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. They would all gather at her home for the holidays, when she would
cook huge family meals. Christmas was one of her favorite holidays, as she loved watching all her grandchildren and the excitement they had at that time of year. Shirley was happiest when she was spending time at her home in the Valley. But after her husband retired, they spent time during the winter in Florida and summers at their cottage on Cayuga Lake, prior to his passing. Shirley was a kind, caring and loving woman who will be missed by all who knew her.
She enjoyed spending time outdoors whenever possible. Her love for flower gardening and of the outside led her to also walking the cemetery several times a day. During her walk, she would clean throughout the cemetery and fix the pots on graves that needed tending. Prior to her illness, she also enjoyed reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
She is predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Kidd, grandson, Bradley "Brad" Gilbert, brother, Robert "Bob" Grimley, sister-in-law, Mary Kidd-Muha, and son-in-law, Thomas Foote.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sally Foote of Sayre, PA, daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Paul Gilbert of Athens, PA, grandchildren Samantha and Eduardo Rea of Dumont, NJ and Jesse Foote and Adam Brady of Sayre, PA, and great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Theo Rea. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Grimley of Athens, PA, nieces, Elizabeth Instein, Patricia Grimley, Brenda Wandell, and Kathy Winter, nephews, Steven Drew and Michael Drew, cousin, Cynthia Bracken, and her dear friends, Andy and Beverly Keister.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2pm at the Christian Life Church, 427 South Keystone Avenue, Sayre, PA with the Pastor Paula Crouse and Rev. James Donahoo co-officiating.
The family requests that for a memorial donation in Shirley's memory be made by taking a plant or a bouquet of flowers and a smile to a nursing home or personal care home of your choice to brighten a resident's day or to the: Animal Care Sanctuary, 353 Sanctuary Hill Lane, Milan, PA 18831.
