Obituary of Anna Louise Simons

Anna Louise Simons, 94, of Waverly, NY passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre following a brief illness.

She was born on August 2, 1924 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Norman H., Sr. and Eva (Phrang) Macafee.

Anna Louise lived in Athens until the age of 4 and then her family moved to a farm in Litchfield, PA. She attended grade school in Litchfield and graduated in 1942 from Athens High School.

Anna Louise worked at F.W. Woolworth for 22 years and then the New York Store as a Manager for 22 years, prior to retiring.

She married Donald J. Simons in Waverly, NY on January 4, 1945 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage, prior to his passing in September 2007. After her husband passed, she and her niece whom she was very close to became traveling partners. They traveled to many Celtic music concerts and made a trip to Lexington and Concord to research their family genealogy. Anna Louise was always very proud of being a 5-generation family. She was loved by her family and looked up to as the family matriarch and will be dearly missed. Anna Louise also enjoyed camping with her friends at Spencer Lake and watching NASCAR on TV.

She is predeceased by her husband, Donald Simons, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Frank Presher, and Joan and Gordon Clark, sister, Betty Macafee, her niece and sidekick, Eva Wade, and sister-in-law, Sara Macafee.

Anna Louise is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Carol Simons of Waverly, NY, granddaughter and her husband, Ann Marie and Richard Gillespie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, great-grandsons, Carter Peyton Gillespie and Joshua Sawyer Gillespie both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, brother, Norman Macafee, Jr. (Lucille) of Westport, PA, and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 10am-11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 11am with the Rev. William Wells officiating.

Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA at the convenience of the family.
