Obituary of Thomas B. House
Thomas "Tom" B. House I, 81, of Sayre, PA passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
He was born on February 23, 1937 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Eugene and Lillian (Gibbs) House.
Tom's life focused around his family and spending time with them. He especially enjoyed being together around the holidays. Christmas being his favorite holiday when he could decorate, see all the lights, and watch all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy opening their gifts. He loved hanging out with his sidekick, his dog, Shotsey. Tom was loved by all who knew him and will be missed.
While Tom was in school, he was part of the Civil Air Patrol. Following school, he joined the National Guard. He was employed with the Acme, Rynone Manufacturing, and retired from Wal-Mart. Following retirement, Tom was employed part-time with Guthrie Medical Group until his illness prevented him from continuing to work. He enjoyed Golfing and watching Tiger Woods on TV, was an avid Broncos Fan and John Elway was his favorite Quarterback. His favorite time of watching football was the Super Bowl and the party that comes along with it. He also enjoyed camping. Tom was a member of the MOOSE.
He is predeceased by his grandson, Justin Decker, brother, Robert House, sisters, Elizabeth Payne and Doris Garland, sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Joseph Morningstar and Doris and Vernon Garland, brothers-in-law, James Marshall, Ralph Hatch, Sr., and William McConnell, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie (Whispell) and George Minturn, brother-in-law, Robert Minturn, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcia and Claude Spicer.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Gloria, children, Thomas II and Colleen (Forrest) House, Bruce House, Eugene House, Randy and Susan (House) Brown, John and Ngan (Tran) House, Scott House, Larry and Michelle (Belcher) Decker, Clifford Decker, Richard and Brenda (Decker) Haley, and David and Stacey (Decker) Sickler, 37 Grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Lucille Hatch, Ruth Marshall, Patricia McConnell, and Mary Constantino, brother, Claude House, sister-in-law, Carole Johnston, brother-in-law, Charles Minturn, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Linda Burlew, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and his dog, Shotsey.
Family and friends may call on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 12:30pm-2:30pm at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the funeral home at 2:30pm.
