Obituary of Laura J. Witmer
Laura J. (Saylor) Baker Witmer, 99 years young, of Sayre, PA, formerly of Towanda, PA passed away peacefully with her granddaughter by her side on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Sayre Health Care Center.
She was born on August 29, 1919 in Towanda, PA, the daughter of the late Blaine and Maude (Schmeckenbecker) Saylor.
Laura's priority in life was her family. She was a self-employed Beautician, but her focus was always about her children and raising them. When her children married and she became a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, her life became even more enriched with family and spending time with them. She loved playing a competitive game of Aggravation or cards. Laura also enjoyed cooking and baking, and her family loved being the recipient of her homemade pies. She was a lifetime member of the Towanda United Methodist Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, William Witmer, daughter, Suzanne Zepkowski, brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Marjorie Saylor and Gerald and Phyllis Saylor, and sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Arlene and Frank Browning.
Laura is survived by her loving children, Carole and Ray Darling of Athens, PA, Alan and Wanda Baker of Eloy, AZ, son-in-law, Mike Zepkowski of Manchester, NY, beloved grandchildren, Calvin and Deb Zepkowski, Colleen and Converse, Cindy Mapes, Chris Zepkowski, Brett and Stephanie Darling, Danielle and John Toscano, Erik and Cara Baker, and Tyler Baker, great-grandchildren, Jason, Erin, Curt, Lindsey, Mitchell, TJ, Joey, Corey, Melissa, Gage, Logan, and Hadley, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
At Laura's request, all services will be private. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be Tioga Point Cemetery.
