Obituary of Dorothy H. Bertany

Dorothy K. Bertany, 81, of Litchfield Twp., PA passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at her home surrounded by her beloved family and friends.

She was born September 13, 1937 in Harrison, NJ, the daughter of the late Michael W. and Wanda B. (Garnecki) Krempa.

Dorothy graduated from Metuchen High School in NJ. Following graduation, she worked as a Secretary for Hunterdon County, NJ. She was a dedicated employee and quickly was promoted in the system. At the time of her retirement, she held the position of County Administrator, the first full time female to ever be appointed to that position. Dorothy was instrumental at the very beginning and completion of the Hunterdon County Justice Complex.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose family was always her priority. She loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.  Dorothy was an avid reader and she enjoyed during those times watching all the birds gather outside her window at their rural home. She also was entertained by the chipmunks, one in particular which she named, Chippie. Dorothy spent a lot of her time in her craft room at her home knitting and crocheting scarves, hats, gloves, and prayer shawls for the Cancer Patients, and baby sets for the First Impression Center at the hospital. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a dedicated member of the Church of the Epiphany. Dorothy was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, was a Eucharistic Adorer and was a Eucharistic Minister until her health no longer permitted. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, serving as Secretary and Treasurer. She was a member of the” Happy Hookers Craft Club” who came together monthly making many different craft projects.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years Robert “Pappy” at home, son and daughter-in-law Robert, Jr. and Becky (Vanderveer) Bertany, daughter and son-in-law Terry and Alan Koss of Turin, NY, grandchildren Ashley Rose Bertany of FL, Christopher Bertany of FL, Jessie Polenz and Mack Williams of Aberdeen, NC, Nicole and Gary Debele of Moravia, NY, Joey and Mallory Williamson of Towanda, PA, Christapher Koss of Turin, NY, and Michael Koss of Turin, NY, great-grandchildren Colin, Ivy, Owen, Carson, and Kahne. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jo and Ted Orlowsky of Litchfield Twp., PA, Thomas Krempa of Bethlehem, PA, and Robert Krempa of PA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 10:00am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic. A time of visitation will follow the mass for family and friends at the church.

Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda at the convenience of the family.
