Obituary of Ransom C. Agnew

Ransom C. Agnew, Jr., 81, of South Waverly, PA, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

He was born on June 29, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the son of the late Ransom C. and Jessie (McGill) Agnew.

Ransom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was employed with the Ingersoll Rand, Athens, retiring in 1993. Ransom enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, motorcycle riding, and golfing. He was a member of the ELKS Lodge #1148, Sayre and served in the past as the Exalted Ruler. Ransom was a member the Sons of the American Legion Post #246 and past member of the Legion Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, both college and professional. For many years he was a Philadelphia Eagles fan and then became a “silent” Buffalo Bills fan. He was an avid Penn State fan. Ransom was a past member of the Diahoga Hose Company/Athens Borough Fire Department. He was also a part of the “Valley Smoke Eaters Gun Club” which was a group of volunteer fire fighters that would take time off to go to Barclay Mountain to enjoy the scenery, hunt, and discuss life in general.

He is predeceased by his son Ransom C. Agnew III, brother James Agnew, and sisters Gladys Jennings, Florence Rinus, Blanche Swan, and Artie Mae Rifenburg.

Ransom is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Jean at home, children Theodore and Suzanne Sult-Agnew of York, PA, Elaine and Ron Park of Union Springs, NY, Jeffrey and Debra Agnew of Litchfield, PA, Kenneth and Karen Agnew of Sayre, PA, and Janet and Randy Moser of Trout Run, PA, grandchildren Amy and Steven Lacotta, Theodore John and Angela Sult, Emilie and Kory Stevens, Kristopher and Nicole Park, Brian and Amy Park, Tasey and Chad Baggerly, Tara Agnew and fiancé Jared Smith, Erik Agnew and fiancé Tonya Brown, Brittany and Trey Barrowcliff, Brooke and Tyler Stroble, and Alyssa Moser, great-grandchildren Hannah, Ethan, Benton, Karter, Landon, Sean, Alan, Ian, Rosealee, Renee, Loralie, Collin, Skilur, Areyonna, Ryan, Erika, Mason, Sadie, and was looking forward to meeting his 19th great-grandchild, and  numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

Family and friends may call on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4pm-6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Park, his son-in-law, officiating.
