Obituary of Arlene Snedicor
Arlene Beverly Craig Snedicor, age 86, peacefully went to be with her Lord while at home on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
She was born July 18, 1925 in Springfield Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, to Benjamin and Gladys Grace Craig.
Arlene attended Troy High School and graduated from Mansfield Teachers College in 1950. In 1959, she married Ronald Louden Snedicor. Arlene lived in the Big Pond, Pennsylvania area before her marriage and in Athens, Pennsylvania after her marriage. She worked as an Elementary Teacher at Gladys Burnham Elementary, in Ridgebury, Pennsylvania, and Chemung, New York and later as the first Special Education Teacher for BLaST I.U. 17 in Bradford County and Athens Area School District, retiring in 1985. As a child, Arlene was stricken with polio and went on to persevere in her endeavor to be a teacher. Arlene will be remembered for her many years as a teacher.
Arlene was a member of the North Waverly Chapel, the 39ers, and served her church as head of family fellowship dinners and meals for VBS. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well-known for her delicious pickles. She had a gift for hospitality that was enjoyed by her many friends and family. A special joy for Arlene was the Christmas caroling parties she hosted.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald in 1973, as well as her parents Benjamin and Gladys Grace Craig and siblings: Mary Lucille Wilcox, Wanda Jean Lee, Thomas Stuart Craig, Joseph Benjamin Craig, and Wilma Grace Schill Stewart.
Arlene is survived by her devoted daughter Dolores "Dee" Snedicor Smith, her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Doris Craig, as well as many nieces and nephews and her faithful border collie Murphy.
A Memorial Service will be held at North Waverly Chapel, 38 State Route 34, Waverly, NY on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. The family request that relatives and friends wear red in memory of Arlene as red was Arlene’s favorite color.
A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Big Pond Cemetery.
