Roland "Ron" Festus Sweet, 67, of Athens, PA passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 26, 1944 in Waverly, NY the son of the late Festus and Ester Luella Morley Sweet. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and dancing. He was a proud member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154 and Corning V.F.W. Ron loved spending time with his family and following his grandchildren around to different sporting events. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Ron served in the United States Navy for over 30 years, retiring in 1999 as a Senior Chief. He is predeceased by his wife Sandra Sweet in 2001. Roland is survived by his children Karen (Randy) Rockwell of Sayre, PA, Terrie (Brian) Alexander of Lockwood, NY, Tammy (Lou) Schrier of South Waverly, PA, and Ron (Shannon) Sweet of Sayre, PA, grandchildren Joshua, Joey, Jordan, Jessica, Jarod, Brandon, Nicholas, and Nathan, great-granddaughter Elexia, brother Carl (Pat) Sweet of FL, sister Phyllis Haas of Sayre, PA, special friend Barbie Said of Big Flats, NY, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 1pm to 4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 4pm at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
