Obituary of Raymond Park
Raymond M. Park, 86, of Sayre, PA beloved husband for 69 years, of Jean M. (Bond) Park, died Sunday June 3, 2012 in Burlington, PA.
He was born on July 28, 1925 in Athens, PA and was the son of the late Laurence M. and Sadie M. Park.
He graduated Athens high School in 1943. Raymond entered the United States Navy and was a Carpenters Mate Third-Class. He served on the USS Bataan in WWII. Raymond was honorably discharged in 1946. His Naval Commendations included: The American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific
Medal-6 Stars, The Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Upon his discharge, he became a member of the V.F.W. Post #1536 in Sayre, PA. Raymond was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church. He was a Packaging Coordinator at GTE Sylvania for over 30 years. He was active in the Sayre in the Sayre High School Band Boosters Association for several years. He was also an active member in the Sayre High School Band Boosters Association for several years. He was also an active member of the Round Top Campers Club, serving as President for many years. He had a special admiration for the Sayre Historical Society and donated several pieces of memorabilia over the years. Raymond enjoyed eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, golf and going to Tioga Downs, but his favorite past-time was attending the functions for all 17 of his grandchildren.
Raymond was predeceased by a brother Guy Park.
Besides his wife Jean, he leaves behind his three children Raymond "Corky" (Bonnie) Park of Clearwater, FL, John R. (Diane) Park of St. Mary’s, GA, and David T. (Deborah) Park of South Waverly, PA, as well as seven grandchildren Laurie Park Kelley, Melanie Papineau, Tom Park, Michael Park, Matthew Park, Keighley Park, and Keenan Park, nine great-grandchildren Johnathan Kelley, Aaron Papineau, Christopher Park, Alexandra Kelley, Tristan Kovacs, Lily Carpenter, Jacob Carpenter, Cameron Park, and Damon Park, and one great-great-grandchild Olivia Kelley .
Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 4pm - 5pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 5pm with the Rev. Thom Fassett officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
The Park Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charities of ones’ choice. A very special thank you to the nursing staff at Robert Packer Hospital and the Bradford County Manor for the excellent care given to Raymond during his brief illness.
