MASN Brian P. VanFleet, 27, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Mayo Hospital in Jacksonville, FL with his family at his side following an extended illness. He was born on January 4, 1985 in Sayre, PA the son of Thomas and Sharon Wood VanFleet. Brian was a compassionate and caring person, and a loving husband and father. Brian was serving in the United States Navy. He was stationed at Kings Bays Naval Station, GA and then moved to Mayport Naval Station, FL. He was a Boy Scout, Troop 1 and attained Eagle Scout and was a member of the Venture Crew #105, Sayre, PA. Brian was an EMT for Greater Valley EMS, and a part of their Dive and Rescue Team prior to joining the Navy. He was a member of the Susquehanna-Bradford Strike Team. Brian was a member of the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Company, having joined as a Junior Firefighter and at the present time was an active member on Military Duty. He was a member of American Legion Post #283, Sayre, PA. He enjoyed fishing and boating. Brian will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 2 ½ years Katherine at home, daughter Elaina VanFleet at home, parents Thomas and Sharon VanFleet of Sayre, PA, brothers Thomas (Julie) VanFleet of Ulster, PA, and Matthew VanFleet of Providence, RI, grandmother Anna Wood of Sayre, PA, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11am at the Athens United Methodist Church, 118 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Andrew Weidner officiating.
