Joseph D. Alliger, 65, of Athens, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY following an extended illness. He was born on August 22, 1946 in Towanda, PA the son of the late Harvey Alliger and Donna Cooley Alliger Smith. Joseph was a member of the Good News Church in Waverly, NY. His main focus in life was his grandchildren, especially Cassie. He loved music, and to play the guitar and sing, and he was a part of the Page Manor Band. Joseph enjoyed traveling and he loved cooking, having owned and operated several diners over the years. He is predeceased by his step-father Robert Smith, brother Lawrence Alliger, and brother-in-law Norman Wintermute. Joseph is survived by his children Joseph Andrew Alliger "Joey" of Waverly, NY, Joshua David Alliger of Sayre, PA, Jessica (Alva) Chandler IV of Lockwood, NY, and step-daughter Christa Alliger of Elmira, NY, grandchildren Derek Alliger, Destiny Alliger, Skyler Dolan, Hannah Chandler, Aly Chandler, and special granddaughter Cassie Evans, siblings and in-laws Joan Wintermute of Sayre, PA, Joy (Timothy) Csanadi of Bristol, RI, Carol (William) Darby of Spotsylvania, VA, Robyn (Timothy) Chilson of Meadville, PA, Bruce (Sherry) Alliger of Lake Okeechobee, FL, and Robert L. (Jody) Smith of Columbia CrossRoads, PA, sister-in-law Phyllis Alliger of Sayre, PA, step-mother-in-law Dawn Harvey Alliger of Waverly, NY, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins . Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 11am to 12pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at 12pm at the Funeral Home with the Rev. John Talada of the Good News Church, Waverly, NY officiating.
