Obituary of David Sackett
David Michael Sackett went to his heavenly home on February 25, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Waverly, NY on September 7, 1957 to Arthur and F. Betty Searfoss Sackett.
David spent most of his life in the Valley, attending Athens schools and graduating with the Class of 1976. During high school, David ran track, worked part time in the cafeteria, and excelled in math and shop classes. He spent most of his free time at the Keystone Roller Rink where he was a floor monitor.
David married his soul mate, Louise M. Gleockner on May 18, 1985 in Philadelphia, PA and they shared nearly 28 years of life and love while raising their 3 children together. He held many jobs over the years, doing whatever he needed to in order to support his family. His most recent job was with Horn’s True Value as Small Engine Mechanic for 10 years. He also did small engine repair at 3 Monkey’s New and Used Shop, the business that he and Louise started and shared for 4 years.
He enjoyed life to its fullest. David loved hunting and fishing, dancing, roller skating, bowling, basketball, baseball and football. He could be found at the Athens Home football games with his wife where he called most plays before the announcer. He was a Board Member of the SAW Valley Bowling Association for over 8 years. David bowled on several leagues holding offices, and participated in many tournaments.
Family was always first for David and he would give the shirt off his back to help a friend. David also loved going to the beach and camping with his family.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially by his wife Louise, his children Emily and son-in-law Chuckie Chandler, Kathryn, and John-Mark, his grandchildren Conner and Domenick, adopted grandson Skeeter, his sisters Hazel Chilson, Susan Baxter and Amy Goodwin, his brothers Arthur, Jr. and Gary Sackett, his in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews, his dog and special companion "Betty", many close friends whom David considered family.
David was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Jessica, his mother-in-law Evelyn Vanderpool, sister-in-law Susan Sackett, brother-in-law Bill Chilson, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
