Obituary of Herbert Eike
Herbert B. "Bruce" Eike, 78, of Barton, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.
He was born on January 3, 1935 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Herbert Blodgett and Claire F. Nimchick Eike.
Herb served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Roanoke during the Korean War. He attended Mansfield University and Colgate University. He taught at Tioga Center Central Schools from 1968-1990 with the Class of 1979 dedicating their yearbook to him. Herb was a talented harmonica player and an avid fan of the Sgro Brothers. He was a member and supporter of the Waverly American Legion, Post 492 and the Church of the Redeemer, Sayre.
He is pre-deceased by his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Betty Eike and niece Vanessa Eike.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 52 years Joan at home, children Bruce and Nikita Eike of Hampstead, MD, and Barbara Eike of Vallejo, CA, grandchildren Christopher and Gabrielle Flores, sisters Roberta Blanchard and Margo Eike, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Glenn Mahaffey officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA at the convenience of the family.
