Obituary of Gordon Havens
Gordon W. Havens, 84, of Athens, PA passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at home with his family by his side following an extended illness.
He was born on November11, 1927 in Athens, PA the son of the late J. Wesley and Evangeline Loomis Havens.
Gordon was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Athens Area High School and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. A former Athens business man, he owned and operated Havens Fuel Company. Gordon was a charter member of the Penny Promenaders, past president of the Athens Rotary Club, past member of the Sayre- Athens Lions Club, member of the Southern Tier Wheelers, member of the Tom Jack Campers, and a member of the F&A.M. Rural Amity Lodge. He was a previous Cub Master of
Pack 1, Athens.
He is predeceased by his sons David and Dean Havens.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 60 years Laura Belle Harter Havens at home, children Howard and Dawn Havens of State College, PA, Charla and Terry Keffer of Greensburg, PA, Bruce Havens of Allentown, PA, Gary and Marj Havens of Catonsville, MD, Mark and Lori Havens of Athens, PA, and Beth and Anthony Maio of Syracuse, NY, grandchildren Nichelle (Mark) Strzepek, Brandon Havens, Jessica Keffer and Nathan (Erin) Keffer, Cedric, Kelsey and Kimbrey Havens, Chris Havens, Anita (Mike) Shay, Eric (Heather) Arcesi, and Bailey, Blaise, and Zachary Maio, 7 great-grandchildren, brother George (Wallie) Havens of Fairport, NY, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 6pm – 8pm and Friday, January 6, 2012 from 12pm – 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 2pm on Friday at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Martin Bovee officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
