James "Jim" Bret Carpenter, 44, of Waverly, NY passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on June 15, 1969 in Walton, NY, the son of David W. Carpenter and April Skinner Carpenter Knox. Jim was a graduate of Athens High School, Class of 1987 and then attended Bloomsburg University. He was an avid writer who published two books on his own while working for Murelle Printing. Jim was the Owner/Operator of Lush Life Books, Waverly, NY. His love of Music and the Arts were a large part of his life. Jim was a talented Artist, who shared many of his works with his family and friends. He loved to travel and the outdoors. Jim was a dedicated and loving father, son, and brother. He is predeceased by his father David W. Carpenter, step-father James E. Knox, and maternal grandmother Joyce Skinner. James is survived by his mother April Knox of Waverly, NY, daughter Emily Anne Carpenter/Tully of Waverly, NY, brother Scot Knox of Washington D.C., stepsisters Nancy Vernold of Fort Edward, NY, Kathy (Bill) Hastings of Hudson Falls, NY, Sandra (Ian) Scott of Pottstown, PA, and Sharon Gray of Gainesville, GA, maternal grandfather Allan Skinner of East Branch, NY, paternal grandmother Joyce Hodges of FL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 21014 at 10:00am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
