Obituary of Thelma Wright
Pastor Thelma Lorraine DeVoe Wright, age 80, of Bergen, NY, (formerly of Milan, PA) passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at her home in Bergen.
She was born in East Smithfield, PA on June 29, 1933 the daughter of the late Forrest and Jennie (McCelland) DeVoe.
Thelma was a teacher at Willow Street Elementary School, and other Elementary Schools in the Athens Area School District. She founded and ran Nature Bible Investigation Day Camp in Milan, PA. Thelma founded and pastored His Majesty Fellowship in Athens for over 20 years. She also founded and served as Administrator and Teacher for His Majesty Christian Academy in Athens, PA. Thelma was a great saint who tirelessly worked for the sole purpose that people might know Jesus better.
She is predeceased by her husband F. Burton Wright and sister Rita O’Brien.
Thelma is survived by her two children Judy Steigauf and her husband Carl of Bear, DE and David Wright and his wife Christine of Bergen, NY, five grandchildren, sister Phyllis Hunsinger-Sloan of Daytona Beach, FL, brother Dr. James DeVoe of Millville, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Thelma will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Friends and family may call on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6pm-8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held at His Majesty Fellowship, 191 Fourth Street, Athens, PA on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00am with the Rev. Micah Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, PA following the service.
