Obituary of Jeffrey J. Mitchell
Jeffrey "Jeff" James Mitchell, age 65, of Wasilla , AK, formerly of East Smithfield, went to be with his father, Frank Mitchell, on July 1, 2014, in Anchorage, AK, after a lingering illness.
He was born on March 28, 1949 in Sayre, PA, the son of Frank and Marion Adams Mitchell.
Jeff had spent the last 35 years in his beloved Alaska doing construction work, living in Homer for a time and finally settling in Wasilla. He loved the outdoors, animals, and his family. He also loved showing Alaska to anyone who made the trek "up north". He was often visited by moose in his yard and on his deck during the winters and sent many pictures as proof.
He graduated from SRU High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed joining his family at his father's ship's reunions at various locations across the country. He had a talent for playing pranks on people and was always able to bring a smile to one's face. He was a simple man and didn't require a lot to be happy in his life.
He is predeceased by his father Frank Mitchell in April, 2007.
Jeff is survived by his son Zac (Grace) Runyan and grandkids, Nakia and Jameson Runyan of Seattle, WA, daughter Seneca Runyan and grandson Rhett Bivens from OK, his mother Marion Mitchell of East Smithfield, PA, siblings Nancy (Jack Felicita) Mitchell of East Smithfield, PA, Cedric (Karen) Mitchell of Sacramento, CA, and Pam Mitchell of East Smithfield, PA, niece Dana (Tom) Beyer and TJ of Wyalusing, PA, several aunts, uncles, cousins, many special friends, wonderful family and friends Rick and Kathy Gerould of AK, Jeff Fridley of AK, and Rose and Lilly from AK, whose sacrifices were invaluable and greatly appreciated.
At Jeff's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial will be held at a later date at the family's convenience and will be posted in a future edition of the newspaper. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
