Obituary of Gilbert E. Rogers

Gilbert E. Rogers, 82, of Sayre, PA passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre following a brief illness. He was born on October 27, 1932 in Athens, PA the son of the late Stanley and Edna M. Hunsinger Rogers. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gilbert was employed as a Manager of the Acme Markets, Sayre, prior to retiring. He also worked for Lindhorst Chrysler-Plymouth, and Stroehmann Bakeries. Gilbert was a Veteran of the US Army, stationed in Germany during a portion of his service. He was a lifetime member of the First Church of God in Sayre. One of Gilbert's favorite things to do was traveling with his wife, Arlene, especially to the Lancaster area, before her passing. He loved building puzzles, working with his hands around the house and outdoors in his yard, playing with his dog Roofis, and supporting his grandchildren's activities. He volunteered at Lynch-Bustin Elementary School, helping with the morning car riders. He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years Arlene L. Johnson Rogers on June 19, 2014, brothers Ralph Rogers, Kenneth Rogers, and Stanley Rogers, and brother-in-law Joseph White. Gilbert is survived by his children Steven and Robbin Rogers of Waverly, NY, Connie and David Webster of Sayre, PA, and John and Aida Rogers of Palm Harbor, FL, grandchildren Steven Rogers, Jr. of Sayre, PA, Chelsea, Lucas, and Courtney Webster of Sayre, PA, Jeremiah and Sara Rogers of Sayre, PA, and Bulat and Marat Biyarslanov-Rogers of Palm Harbor, FL, great-grandchildren John and Kylee Rogers and Kohen and Tristen Rosh, sisters Sarah White, Marleah Petty, sister and brother-in-law Geraldine and Louis Young, sisters-in-law Virginia Rogers and Ruth Rogers, several nieces nephews, cousins, and special neighbors Harold "Bud" and Pat Eichorn. A Memorial Service for Gilbert and Arlene will be announced in a future edition of this newspaper. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
