Obituary of Jon W. Parshall
Jon W. “Big Jon” Parshall, 72, of Athens, PA passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness with his family by his side
He was born on July 2, 1942 in Waverly, NY, the son of the late Norris C. and Mary Tooker Parshall.
Jon graduated from Athens Area High School in 1960. He then entered the US Army serving from 1960-1963. While in the Army, Jon played on the football team in Germany. Upon his return from the service, he entered the University of Laramie, Wyoming on a full football scholarship. Jon was employed as an International Purchaser with the IR, Athens for 32 years, prior to retiring. He was a supporter of his families interests in motorcycle racing and was the backbone of Parshall Motorcycle Racing, serving as President and was the founder of Sutliff Hill Campground and Motorsports Park. He was an avid NASCAR fan and his loyalty was to driver Kevin Harvick. Jon was an avid sports fan of Athens High School sports, and Penn State Football and Wrestling. He was a member of Square Deal Riders Motorcycle Club of Harpursville, NY, American Motorcycle Association, Athens American Legion Post #246, Sayre ELKS, and prior to the flood of 2011 he had his own special stool at Johnny’s Tavern. He enjoyed hunting and took many fishing trips.
He is predeceased by his mother Mary Parshall, father Norris Parshall, stepmother Alberta Parshall Ziats, and brothers Bob Parshall and Gerry Parshall.
Jon is survived by his wife of 50 years Peggy Morley Parshall at home, children Conrad and Lynn Parshall of Athens, PA, Colleen Parshall and Grady Forbes of Athens, PA, and Cathy Parshall and Ron Kendrick of Athens, PA, foster son Rusty (Debbie Moscato) Rose of Raleigh, NC, grandchildren Brittany Kreider, Trey (Lindsey Rogers) Kreider, Joel Kreider, Hannah Forbes, Tyler Forbes, and Gabby Forbes, Regan Parshall, Caleb Parshall, Travis Polzella, Lindsey Polzella, Cody Williams, Caden Williams, Shawn Irons, Peyten Kendrick, great-grandson Maddox Jon Kreider, brother Clifford Parshall of Sayre, PA, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Lucinda Parshall of Sayre, PA, step-brother Keith Rowe of Sayre, PA, step-brother and sister-in-law Tom and Barb Rowe of Pavilion, NY, many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond, and several cousins.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 2pm – 5pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the funeral home at 5pm with the Rev. James Donahoo officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA at the convenience of the family.
