Obituary of Bernard H. Evans

Bernard H. "Bernie" Evans, 80, of Athens, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at home with his family surrounding him. He was born on December 17, 1934 in Athens, PA the son of the late Austin and Cora Hamilton Evans. Bernie was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1954-1958 and in the Korean War. He was very dedicated to the Valley Color Guard. He always made sure the flags were out in Sayre during the holidays. Bernie loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, picnics with family and friends, horseshoes, and feeding and watching the birds out of his window. Bernie had a big heart and also enjoyed his cat shadow. He is predeceased by his 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Bernie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Emma at home, children Debra and Ronnie Ennis of Athens, PA, Michael and Lori Evans of Athens, PA, Jim Evans of Athens, PA, and Bonnie and Brian Wood of Athens, PA, grandchildren Jessica and Mitchell Evans of Athens, PA, Kevin VanHorn, Scott and Gregg Evans, Ashley, Samantha, Britany, Jamie, and Tiffany Evans, great-grandchildren Jazmin, Dylan, Noah, and Abby Evans, Brooke Evans, and Colsen VanHorn, sister and brother-in-law Jane and Phil Ridgeway of Athens, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 1pm-3pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Bernie's memory to the: Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street Northwest #700, Washington, DC 20005.
