Obituary of Ralph Richard King

Ralph Richard "Dick" King, 67, of Montrose, PA passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born on December 7, 1947 in Binghamton, NY the son of the Herbert Ralph Richard and Frances Pamela Corey King (Simko). Dick was a family oriented man who loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was a 1965 graduate of Montrose High School and was employed for 34 years with Binghamton State Psych Center, prior to his retirement in February of 2003. He enjoyed his job working with adolescents and young adults. Dick made many lifetime friendships with his co-workers. He was well known for his sense of humor, joking with and harassing anyone that he knew well or had just met. Dick was a kind and generous man who would help anyone under any circumstances. He was not able to join the service, but he was proud to be patriotic and supported all active service personnel and veterans adamantly. He was loved by many and will be missed by his family and all those who knew him. He was an avid runner, participating in many runs over the years in different places. Dick especially was proud of participating in the Boilermaker, Marine Corp Marathon, and the Red Dress Run. As a family event, he and his wife Barb and the family sponsored his son in the Late Model Division, going to many local race tracks in the area. After the passing of his youngest brother, he was instrumental with his siblings, in the start of the Jim King Memorial Firefighters 5K to honor his brother's service to the community. Dick was a FORD man and would argue the point with anyone who thought different, including his brother, the CHEVY man, who was his main target. He enjoyed conversing about Harley-Davidsons and recently became the proud owner of his own. Dick was an avid deer hunter, and over the last few years enjoyed bow hunting. At every family event, Dick was the designated griller, as he was the best at it. In nice weather, Dick ran the Men's Horseshoe Club at his home, where they played horseshoes and enjoyed some of Dick and Barb's cooking. He is predeceased by his father H. Ralph King, brother James M. King, maternal grandparents Charlotte and Clarence Brown, paternal grandparents Gladys and Richard King, father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Jane Schmoll, and brother-in-law Doug Kent.
