Howard Schurer, 91, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Sayre, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg, PA. He was born April 24, 1924 in Youngsville, NY the son of the late William and Agnes Muller Schurer. Howard was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. While in the Army, he was based in the Philippines and then transferred to Japan with the M34-24 Division, leaving the service as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed with Westinghouse, Horseheads, NY, retiring in 1989.Howard and his wife, Marie enjoyed taking several trips to Hawaii and spending time on cruises on the St. Lawrence. He is predeceased by his brother William Schurer. Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Marie Tuhro Schurer at home, daughter and son-in-law Joan and Kevin Quigley of Mechanicsburg, PA, grandson Dylan Quigley of Mechanicsburg, PA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Mary Tuhro of Sault Sainte Marie, MI, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 10am-11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the Funeral Home at 11am. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA with Military Honors.
