Obituary of Raymond L. VanDuzer
Raymond L. VanDuzer 89, passed away on September 16, 2015 in Seminole, FL with his wife Janet of 16 years by his side.
Raymond was born November 22, 1925 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Leon and Lulu VanDuzer.
Ray retired from the Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA, after serving 15 years as President of the Corporation. Prior to that, he was the Credit Manager at the Robert Packer Hospital and was also the Patient Accounts Manager at Tioga General Hospital in Waverly, NY. After retiring, Ray managed and operated the True Value Store and All Sport Center, Athens, PA. He served as Executive Director of Valley Economic Development and Habitat for Humanity in Sayre, Waverly, and Athens. Ray also enjoyed being involved with a number of theatrical performances and musicals.
During World War II, he served 3 years in the US Army. He was attached to the 112th Infantry, 28th Division as a Combat Medic in France and Germany. He served in 4 major battles and was captured in Schmidt, Germany. Ray was awarded the Combat Medic Badge, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars w/Oak Leaf Cluster, and in May of 2011, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor.
He was predeceased by his first Wife, Phyllis (Gilbert) VanDuzer, step-father Edward Vos, Son Philip, and Sisters Helen Dixon, and Isabel VanDuzer.
Ray is survived by his Wife Janet, sons Daniel and Marvin (Barbara) VanDuzer. His Grandchildren; Jamie (Missy), Scott and Todd VanDuzer, Eric (Alicia) VanDuzer, Tracy Cole, and Tandi (Adam) Murphy. His Great-Grandchildren; Ana, Robbie, Brelin, Kannon, Mazlin, and Afftyn.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10am –11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Flatt of the Calvary Baptist Church, Athens, PA.
Military burial honors will be accorded by the Active Army Honor Guard and the Valley Color Guard.
The family will host a luncheon following the service at Tomasso's Restaurant, Waverly, NY.
