Obituary of Wanda S. Allford
Wanda Jean Allford, 83, of Milan, PA passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 4, 2017 at Elderwood in Waverly, NY.
Wanda was born in Elmira, NY to the late Edson and Velma Smith. She went to a one room school house in Alder Run, PA and graduated from Williamson High School. She went on to earn her degree in Home Economics at Mansfield University where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Allford. Wanda worked for the Athens Area School District for many years as the Home Economics Teacher.
Wanda enjoyed spending her summers with friends and family at Highland Lake. She had a passion for music, loved her cats and sitting on her porch watching the birds. She also like to sew and cook. Wanda will be remembered for her witty personality and ability to make anyone laugh.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Lori (Wayne) Anderson, son W. John (Holly) Allford. Grandchildren, Caleb (Shannon) Anderson, Mickala Anderson and Hannah Allford, all of Milan, PA, her sister Carolyn Thorp of Millerton, PA, her caretaker, Iona Cannavino, many close friends, and she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Edson and Velma Smith, her brothers Wilfred and Jimmy Smith, and her loving husband of 44 years, William Allford.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 4pm – 6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the funeral home at 6pm with the Rev. Helen Learn from the Athens United Methodist Church in Athens officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Wanda’s memory to: Elderwood at Waverly, SNF (Senior Daycare and Elderwood Alzheimer’s Unit), 34 N. Chemung Street, Waverly, NY 14892. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff on 6SW at the Robert Packer Hospital and on the 2nd floor at Elderwood.
