Obituary of Ivan Joseph Blackman
Ivan J. "Joe" Blackman, 80, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at home with his family by his side following an extended illness.
He was born on March 28, 1936 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late George L. and Ethel (Beckhorn) Blackman.
Joe graduated from Sayre High School and was a Veteran of the US Air Force. Returning from the service, he was employed with Schweizer Aircraft, Elmira, as a Chief Stock Clerk for 33 years, prior to retiring in 1997. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Joe was very giving and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a member of the Sayre Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing cards, roller skating (where he met his wife Kathleen), and bowling. He also loved Christmas and playing Santa Claus for all the kids. Joe was a long time member of the Loyal Order of Moose, holding the position of Governor and Past Governor.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Manley and Irl Blackman and sisters Edna Haner, Ina Squires, and Mary Hatch.
Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen at home, son and daughters-in-law Jason A. and Heather Blackman of Sayre, PA, daughter and son-in-law Holly (Blackman) and Eric Diaz of Sayre, PA, grandchildren Alexa, Ariel, Cole, and Finn Blackman all of Sayre, PA, Tiara, Eric, Jade, Landon, and Laura Diaz all of Sayre, PA, sister Frances Fox of Elmira, NY, brother Thomas Blackman of Waverly, NY, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe is also survived by his faithful companions, Dutch and Max that went with him everywhere.
A Celebration of Life Service will held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1pm at Keystone Manor, 900 North Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA with the Rev. Shane Hicks Lee officiating. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
