Obituary of Vernon L. Rogers
Vernon L. “Sonny” Rogers, Jr., 66, of Athens, PA passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA following a brief illness.
Sonny was born on January 29, 1951 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Vernon L., Sr. and Betty J. DeWitt Rogers.
He loved to camp and enjoyed cruising to the Bahamas. Sonny drove school bus for 48 years and also drove a shuttle bus for the hospital for several years. He loved family picnics, listening to country music and Vern was a very special person to a lot of people.
Sonny is predeceased by his parents, brother Frederick Rogers, 2009, and a cousin Lloyd Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Bonnie, at home; children Jeremy Rogers of Athens, PA, very special girls Princess and Diana; Barbara and Randy Welch of Waverly, NY and Steven Peterson of Corning, NY; grandchildren Shawn and Alexis Peterson, Joshua and Jonathan Amey, and Brandi Welch; 2 great grandchildren, siblings Verna Rogers of Jacksonville, FL and Kathleen and Joseph Chapman of Athens, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend June Plouse.
Friends and family may call on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 1-3pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Service will follow at the funeral home at 3pm.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Lowery Funeral Home to help offset expenses of the funeral at 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA 18810.
