Obituary of Rachel A. Callear

Rachel A. Callear, 92, of East Athens, PA, surrounded by her family passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA following a period of declining health. She was born on March 13, 1925, in Rome, PA, the daughter of the late Bert and Florence (Mitten) Allis. Rachel was all about family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved quilting and crocheting, and over the years has made quilts for each member of her family. Her gift to share her creations, most recently brought her to crocheting lap robes for the rehabilitation center, and as she put it, "I enjoy making them for the old folks", never once considering her age as being one of the folks. Well-known for her kindness and her love for visiting, she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. She attended North Orwell and graduated from Leraysville School. Rachel was employed with the Athens Area School District in the Cafeteria. While raising her children, she was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Together with her husband of 70 years, Elmer, they belonged to Penny Promenaders for 32 years, enjoying each dance together. Rachel was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband Elmer and siblings, Katherine McPherson, Wilma Allis, Marion Allis, Vernon Allis, Paul Allis, and Ruth Rogers. Rachel is survived by her children, Ronald and Roxy Callear of Milan, PA, Kenneth and Janine Callear of Athens, PA, Keith Callear of Sayre, PA, Richard Callear and Nancy Bustin of Monroeton, PA, and Lorieta and Wm. Dennis Gallick of Benton, PA, grandchildren, Judd, Nate, Eric, Amy, Mary, Tara, and Michelle, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 12pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.
