Obituary of Michael J Phelan

Michael “Mike” J. Phelan, 71, of Waverly, NY, surrounded by his beloved family passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 28, 2017.

He was born on May 24, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late John Lewis and Virginia Mary (Powelson) Phelan.

Mike worked as a Registered Nurse at the Robert Packer Hospital until his health declined.  Michael’s greatest love and priority was spending time with his family.  He was the focal point of all family events, including Sunday dinners, family gatherings, playing cards, and doting on each grandchild he was blessed to have.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis in 2003, daughter, Colleen Ann Phelan, and brothers, John P. Phelan, Frederick W. Phelan, and James H. Phelan.  

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Dee, at home. Children: Little Michael and Tammy Phelan of Springville, PA, Kathleen “Kathy” and Mark DeLauro of Troy, PA, and Jennifer and Pernell Trollman of Athens, PA. Step-children: Tony Talada of Waverly, NY, Billie Jo and Donald Wayman of Wasilla, AK, and Jack “JJ” and Sherry Talada of Rome, PA. Grandchildren: Meagan, Melody, Danyel, David James “DJ”, Casey, Emily, Brittany, Alicia, Jacob, Megan, Morgan, Miranda, and Kane. Great-grandchildren: Parker, Caiden, Chloe, Lily, Tristan, Khali. He is also survived by his brother, Frank L. Phelan, brothers and sisters-in-law,Thomas J. and Barbara Phelan and Matthew S. and Natalie Phelan, sister and brother-in-law, Mary-Margaret and Leonard Bujak, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At Michael’s request this will be a private family service.

Memorial donations may be made in Michael’s memory to a Charity of one’s choice.
