Obituary of Allie C. Babcock
Allie C. “Bud” Babcock, 79, of Athens, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Sayre Health Care Center following a brief illness.
He was born November 16, 1938, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Allie J. and Leotha (Alexander) Babcock.
Bud was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was employed with IR, Athens for over 34 years as a Machinist, Union Representative, and in the HR Department, prior to retiring.
Bud loved all types of sports, whether it was local, college, or professional. He served in the past as a PIAA basketball and baseball Referee and Little League Coach. Bud enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid Penn State fan.
Bud was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1595, Owego. He served as past President, Governor and was a Pilgrim of the Order. Bud loved to travel throughout the United States with his wife, Barbara, attending the Moose functions. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing.
He is predeceased by his brother, Gerald Babcock and sister, Geraldine DiPio.
Allie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara at home, daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Madigan of Waverly, NY, Cindy and William “Cubby” Shaffer of Sayre, PA, and Michael and Monica Babcock of Tampa, FL, grandchildren, Alicia and Dutch Blokzyl of Milan, PA, Adam Madigan and Danielle Hall of Cortland, NY, Ryan Shaffer and Jenifer Simons of Waverly, NY, Jamie and Bryce Christison of Forrest City, PA, Meghan and Steve Lowe of Atlanta, GA, and Lauren Shaffer and Eric Reznicek of Waverly, NY, great-grandchildren, Kendal, Asher, Liliana, and Samson. He is also survived by his sisters, Bertha House of Waverly, NY, and Viola Farr of Ocala, FL, sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Gerald Shipman of Sayre, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 11am-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2pm with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
