Obituary of William "Bill" E. Wilson
WILLIAM EVAN WILSON, age 68, of Ulster, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Elderwood at Waverly of an aggressive brain cancer.
He was born on September 28, 1950 in Sayre, PA, to attorney William Leonard Wilson and Margaret Evans Wilson of Towanda.
After graduating from Waverly High School, Bill graduated from Corning Community College, where he earned an Associate in Science with distinction. He later earned a B.A. from Mansfield State College, a M.E. from Mansfield University, and a Teacher's Certification in Art.
He taught art to grades K to 6 at the Otto Eldred School District in Duke Center, PA, and K to 9 in the Austin Area School District in Austin, PA, before teaching grades K to 7 at SRU in the Athens Area School District. There he taught for 24 years until his retirement.
Bill was an avid reader. He also continued to paint and to play his guitar during his retirement. He belonged to an artist group known as Paint N Palette that gathered to paint on Wednesdays, and occasionally held exhibits of their art work.
He is predeceased by his parents, and survived by two sisters, Charlotte Wilson (William) Hoffman of Orangeburg, NY, and Frances Wilson (Philip) Crouse of Towanda; three nephews: Damon Everett (Michelle) Nee of Santa Clarita, CA, Derek Evan (Deanna) Nee of Tallahassee, FL, and Joseph Philip Crouse of Philadelphia, PA; one niece: Katherine Margaret (Ethan) Moss of Sayre, PA; and six grand-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by very special friends, Steve, Ann, and Carrie Davis, of Waverly, NY.
The family will receive friends at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA on Saturday, January 5, 2018 from 3pm to 5pm. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 5pm with The Reverend Anne Canfield officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda at the convenience of the family.
